First-Quarter Results 2008: BASF enters a challenging 2008 with a record first quarter
Significantly higher sales and earnings:
Sales up 9 percent, EBIT before special items up 11 percent
Confident outlook for full year 2008 confirmed
The BASF Group has continued on its successful path in the first three months of 2008. Having posted a further record quarter, it is confident with regard to the coming months. First-quarter sales rose by almost 9 percent to EUR 15.9 billion, while income from operations (EBIT) before special items increased by more than 11 percent compared with the same period of 2007 to almost EUR 2.4 billion.

Ludwigshafen, Germany - April 24, 2008 - The BASF Group has continued on its successful path in the first three months of 2008. Having posted a further record quarter, it is confident with regard to the coming months. First-quarter sales rose by almost 9 percent to €15.9 billion, while income from operations (EBIT) before special items increased by more than 11 percent compared with the same period of 2007 to almost €2.4 billion.

BASF SE has announced plans for a significant expansion of its production plant for the biodegradable plastic Ecoflex® at the company’s Ludwigshafen site. The move will raise Ecoflex production capacities from the current 14,000 by 60,000 metric tons per year. Production at the expanded plant will commence in the third quarter of 2010.

Beijing, China - March 19, 2008 - BASF and China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec Corp.) today submitted the technical and commercial feasibility study for the approval of the planned $900 million expansion of their joint chemical Verbund site in Nanjing to the Chinese government.

What is the value of the current BASF dividend?

A dividend of € 3.90 per share for 2007 is 30 % higher than in the previous year and corresponds to an attractive dividend yield of 4.6 % based on the closing share price on March 31, 2008. We aim to increase our dividend each year, or at least maintain it at the previous year's level. |

When does BASF typically pay the dividend?

Dividends are generally remitted within the first two business days after the Annual Meeting. All shareholders possessing BASF certificates on the day of the Annual Meeting are entitled to receive payment of the dividend. |

The rating highlighted quality, accountability as well as the up-to-date information. Multimedia features like videos provide an easy access for the user to complex topics of sustainability. This achievement is a future incentive to keep and to expand this high level of quality.
