BASF Product: Paper chemicals
Description: Joint solutions for paper and print technology. The individual steps in the process are optimally adjusted with one another from paper production and finishing through to the final printed product. Development of a new pigment coating for inexpensive base papers.
Development partner: Axel Springer AG, a leading producer of print media Omya, a pigment manufacturer Voith Paper, a supplier of paper machines
Customer’s Product: High-quality weekend newspaper supplements and magazines
Customer benefit: Coated Coldset: an inexpensive base paper receives a thin pigment coating, making it whiter and easier to print on. It can then be used to produce high-quality weekend supplements or even magazines using the cost-effective offset printing process. The new quality can be both seen and felt: The printing is particularly sharp and the supplements are pleasant to the touch.
Benefit for BASF: In close co-operation with leading producers of print media, pigment manufacturers and suppliers of paper machines, BASF’s process know-how lead to identifying new ways of improving quality and reducing costs in the entire process chain – resulting in bigger sales opportunities for BASF’s paper chemicals.
