New Business Development at BASF |

Inorganics
Our portfolio of inorganic chemicals is constantly being extended through research and development. It ranges from basic chemicals such as chlorine, ammonia and sulfuric acid through to specialties such as boron trifluoride, alcoholates and hydroxylamine free base. High-performance catalysts from BASF increase the efficiency of processes and reduce costs. Moreover, BASF acts as a key partner to the wood-processing and paper industry with products such as formaldehyde and melamine, glues and impregnating resins.

Intermediates
The Operating Division Intermediates of the BASF Group develops, produces and markets the world's largest range of intermediates. The most important of the division's more than 600 products include amines, diols, polyalcohols and acids. Among other applications, intermediates are used as starting materials for, coatings, plastics, pharmaceuticals, textile fibres, detergents and crop protectants. BASF is always developing new intermediates in close cooperation with its customers - intermediates that are tailored to precisely meet customer needs. |
Styrenics
BASF's Styrenics are easy to process and offer excellent price/performance ratios. Polystyrenes are used everywhere: as packaging materials or containers, and in a wide range of appliance and equipment housings. Styropor® and Styrodur® polystyrene foams are the "experts" when it comes to insulation and cushioning materials. |
Polyurethanes
Polyurethanes are made-to-order materials: By fine tuning the starting materials, we can make materials that are either rigid or flexible, expanded or dense. As one of the world's three largest producers of polyurethane, BASF can supply starting materials or ready-to-use polyurethane systems. The main applications are in the automotive industry. |
Performance Chemicals
Our performance chemicals make shoes watertight and as colorful as coffee machines, ceramic tiles or automobiles. We make clothes easy to care for and help save on the amount of water needed to wash them. Magazines and high-impact packaging can be printed in bright colors. Gas and diesel engines are more efficient, automobiles are clean after being washed and their paintwork is durable. |
Functional Polymers
BASF’s Performance Polymers are specialists in a variety of areas. For example, they make textiles and leather easy to care for, and they make paper easier to print. They are also used to produce raw materials for adhesives and paints and for coatings and nonwoven materials. |
BASF Plant Science
In the field of plant biotechnology, BASF Plant Science manages an international research and technology network in Europe and North America. Its research concentrates on the areas of more efficient agriculture, healthier nutrition and plants as "green factories". |
