BASF presents innovative sustainable solutions in China’s largest municipality


Chongqing, CHINA – May 08, 2008 – BASF – The Chemical Company – is Official Partner of the “Germany and China – Moving Ahead Together” initiative in Chongqing, southwest China. A BASF Pavilion focusing on sustainable urbanization will be open to the public at the Germany Esplanade in the city’s central square from May 9 to 17, 2008. In addition, BASF is sponsoring a forum at Chongqing University at which stakeholders are invited to share their ideas about a sustainable future for Chongqing.

Mosquito nets save lives


Mosquito nets protect against malaria
Malaria is one of last three major epidemic diseases, killing well over a million people a year. Only AIDS and tuberculosis claim more victims. Malaria is caused by tiny single-celled organisms called plasmodia transmitted by mosquitoes of the Anopheles genus. Ninety percent of these cases are concentrated in Africa, with young children being most affected. Every 30 seconds a child dies of malaria in Africa and almost every second victim is under five.

BASF to strengthen its automotive business in India


Mumbai, INDIA, May 6, 2008 – BASF announced its plans to expand its offerings for the automotive industry in India with investments in plants and technology. The company will build a new engineering plastics compounding plant at its existing site in Thane, which is expected to come on stream by the second half of 2009.

BASF announces major bioplastics production expansion


BASF announces major bioplastics production expansion
BASF SE has announced plans for a significant expansion of its production plant for the biodegradable plastic Ecoflex® at the company’s Ludwigshafen site. The move will raise Ecoflex production capacities from the current 14,000 by 60,000 metric tons per year. Production at the expanded plant will commence in the third quarter of 2010.

Technology from BASF makes Hong Kong’s air cleaner


Hong Kong, CHINA – April, 2 – BASF is supplying diesel particulate filters for over 2,500 Hong Kong transit buses, marking the first large-scale commercial use of diesel particulate filters in the city as part of a diesel retrofit program. It also demonstrates BASF Catalysts’ continued efforts to promote a cleaner environment in Hong Kong with its more than 7 million inhabitants.
