BASF: Bonus system for contractors
BASF emerged as the most environmentally sound of all DAX 30 companies in a representative survey conducted in Germany by the Allensbach opinion research institute. In the poll, 28 percent of the participants named BASF as the company showing the strongest active involvement in environmental protection. In particular, BASF was recognized for its efforts in reducing emissions into inshore waters such as the Rhine River. Commenting on the survey results, Dr. Jürgen Hambrecht, Chairman of BASF’s Board of Executive Directors, said that “for us, sustainable enterprise means combining economic success with environmental and social responsibility. We have set ambitious environmental goals and we want to be measured by our ability to attain them. We are therefore extremely pleased that so many people are taking a positive view of our concerted efforts as ‘The Chemical Company.’ ” In the survey, 2,159 German citizens aged 16 and up were asked to assess the current environmental situation, environmental aspects of business in general, as well as selected issues pertaining to environmental and energy policy.
