Shaping a Sustainable future for stakeholders |
07/07 |

BASF Corporation is committed to ensuring Sustainable Development, which involves helping to shape the sustainable future for stakeholders through education and training. BASF's Product Stewardship department conducted a series of seminars on the importance of incorporating the principles of Sustainable Development into product development and business strategies.
In April, more than 30 participants attended BASF Corporation's third Eco-efficiency Methodology Training Seminar at the American Chemistry Council headquarters in Virginia. The seminar was hosted by the Ecology and Safety Department (NTU). Customers participated along-side non-profit organizations such as United States Environmental Protection Agency, academia, life-cycle consultants, as well as BASF Marketing, Technical Service and Product Stewardship representatives.
Participants were introduced to BASF's leading Sustainable Development philosophy and practices. They received an in-depth view of how the environmental and economic dimensions of Sustainable Development are assessed using BASF's Eco-efficiency Analysis. As an added bonus, participants were given a sneak preview of BASF's revolutionary tool to incorporate the social dimension: SEE-Balance™.

"BASF Eco-Efficiency Analysis is an important tool because it fosters the development of products that are better for the environment while at the same time having lower overall costs," stated Chris Bradlee, who organized and facilitated the seminar . Bradlee is a member of the team which spearheads the use of Eco-efficiency and Total Cost of Ownership analyses to enable BASF businesses to market the sustainability of their products. "We are committed to help shaping a sustainable future for BASF's stakeholders through education and training on eco-efficiency analysis, and the strong turnout at this event speaks to the value this tool brings to our customers."
In addition to the outreach to external stakeholders, the Product Stewardship Department held a one-day seminar on "Sustainable Marketing: A Pathway to Business Success," in New Jersey. BASF Marketing, Sales and Technical Service representatives attended the seminar, hosted by the team. The event facilitated sharing of best practices among business units, for utilizing sustainable development tools such as Eco-efficiency Analysis (EEA), Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and other sustainability-related strategies in their marketing efforts. Participants heard business case studies of exemplary marketing efforts, and examples of customer partnerships utilizing BASF's sustainable development tools.
The next Sustainable Marketing Seminar will be held during the second half of 2007 in Ohio.
