Modern agriculturists are expected to deliver top quality harvests while at the same time addressing sustainable development issues. Here, BASF puts the focus on plant biotechnology: We develop plants for a healthier nutrition as well as for use as renewable resources. We cooperate with the plant biotechnology company Monsanto make important crops such as corn (maize) or soybean, higher-yielding and more stress tolerant. In this way, we develop solutions with clear benefits for consumers and the environment together with our customers.

Better harvest in spite of climate stress Climatic conditions such as heat or cold and rain or drought can determine whether a harvest turns out well or badly. With the help of plant biotechnology BASF Plant Science develops for example stress tolerant crops. In a targeted manner genes from other plants that already possess the desired traits are inserted into agricultural plants such as corn, soya, canola or cotton. This enables them to better handle stress factors.
